You’re not alone if you find yourself spending more time at home these days because of the coronavirus pandemic. For many El Pasoans, daily life now requires work, dine-in, exercise and even school to be done from home.

El Paso Water wants to help you conserve water and at the same time save money. More time indoors means do-it-yourself home improvement projects are on the rise.

“Saving water at home can be as easy as finding and fixing a leak, or swapping out old showerheads with water efficient ones, said Conservation Manager Anai Padilla. “You may feel like you are using more water because you are spending more time at home, but there are still ways to conserve.”

EPWater created the “How to Conserve Water” video series to demonstrate how simple changes around your home can make a huge difference in water conservation. Educating the community is a key component of the utility’s conservation program and has contributed to the city’s decrease of per-person water consumption by 35 percent since 1991, the year our conservation ordinance was adopted.

The videos range from learning how to find a hidden leak in your home to finding out when your lawn needs more water. Most of the tools needed can be found around your house. A leaky faucet that drips once every second can waste more than 1,000 gallons every year.

“We wanted to create an easy to use tool to empower our customers to save water in their homes. The videos are short and to the point and can be viewed on any device,” said Communications and Marketing Manager Christina Montoya-Halter.
