El Paso Water to Host Community Meetings on Proposed Rate Increase

Published on January 7, 2026

EL PASO, Texas - At the request of the Mayor and City Council, El Paso Water will host a series of community meetings across the city to explain its proposed water and wastewater rate increase and to answer questions from customers about how the proposal could affect their monthly bills.

City leaders understand that many residents have questions and concerns about the proposed increase and its potential impact on household budgets. These meetings are intended to provide clear, factual information about the proposal, explain why the increase is being considered, and give residents an opportunity to speak directly with El Paso Water staff.

ABOUT THE PROPOSED RATE INCREASE

El Paso Water has proposed a rate increase as part of its Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget. If approved, stormwater fees would not increase and the typical residential water and wastewater bill would increase by $9.99 per month, a 12% increase over last year’s bill.

According to the utility, the proposal reflects higher operating costs, aging infrastructure that must be maintained and replaced, regulatory requirements, and long-term investments needed to ensure reliable water and wastewater service for the community.

The proposed increase has not been approved. Final approval authority rests with the Public Service Board (PSB), which oversees El Paso Water operations.

Community input is a key part of the process, and feedback shared at these meetings will be provided to the Public Service Board as it considers the proposed rates.
