Northeast and Central Boil Water Notice Rescinded
No. The Boil Water Notice has been officially rescinded after laboratory testing confirmed the water is safe. You may now use tap water normally for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice.
Yes. Once the notice is lifted, boiling is no longer required. For best quality, customers are encouraged to flush household plumbing before use.
- Run cold water taps for at least 5 minutes and up to 15 minutes. If water is not clear after 15 minutes, call 915-594-5500 and request EPWater to flush the line. Then repeat the flushing process at your tap.
- Flush water lines to refrigerators, ice makers, and water dispensers.
- Discard any ice made during the boil water notice.
- Replace or flush refrigerator and pitcher filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- If you use under‑sink or whole‑house filters, follow the manufacturer’s guidance
Yes. The water is safe for all normal household uses, including cooking, bathing, laundry, and pets.
The water system restored normal operations and submitted required laboratory samples to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), confirming the water meets all safety standards.

On the morning of Sunday, Jan. 11, El Paso experienced an unprecedented water main break near the intersection of Girl Scout and Transmountain, leaving more than 100,000 residents in Northeast and parts of Central El Paso with little or no water service.
Repair and Service Restoration Timeline

- Repairs are complete and water service has been restored for all customers, (as of 1/14/2026).
- Boil water notice is rescinded for customers in the entire boil water notice area.
- Customers may notice a chlorine smell in their water, as El Paso Water boosted levels for disinfection.
- Sputtering from the tap is normal due to air being trapped in the pipes. The flow will stabilize in a few minutes.
- Residents and businesses will continue to see EPWater and construction crews for the next several weeks as work continues in the area, including engineering assessments to determine the final cause.
