EL PASO – El Paso Water will announce secured funding for the Surface Water Augmentation Project at the Upper Valley Water Treatment Plant in northwest El Paso. State Senator Cesar Blanco and State Representative Joe Moody will join EPWater President and CEO John Balliew in the announcement of $14 million in funding for the initial investment to include design and pilot project.
The Surface Water Augmentation Project will be built next to the existing Upper Valley Water Plant to treat water from the Rio Grande, enabling the utility to reduce groundwater pumping, which protects the aquifer for the future. The project is the culmination of decades of long-term planning by EPWater to provide a sustainable water supply for El Paso.
